So
you have a place to live!
What
do you do now?
Finding
accommodation is very difficult. But once you have the accommodation,
keeping the place organised with food in the cupboard and the
bills paid can sometimes be even harder.
Floating
Support can help!
We know
there is a lot to organise when setting up a home. We are experts
— we do it for someone every week! We can support you through
this big step, by being there, by answering your questions and
giving help and advice if you need it.
We can
help you with budgeting and planning your shopping. We can help
you register with your local doctor and help you find a dentist.
We can help you to contact Electricity, Gas, and Water companies,
and find the cheapest. All our staff have mobile phones and we
are happy for you to use them to contact utility companies and
other agencies while we are with you.
I’ve
had my flat/house for some time
Makes
no difference to us! If you’re having problems with debts,
benefits, or housing issues, we can help. If we don’t know
the answers we will try to find someone who does. If you just
need someone to talk to or support you through a difficult time,
we can help with that too, or we can find the right agency to
support you if we can’t.
I’m
having problems with my landlord
If you
are having any problems with your landlord, we can help by acting
as a go-between to sort out any difficulties before they get out
of control.
I
may need support dealing with alcohol or drug issues
If you
have issues with alcohol or drugs and want to speak to someone,
we can support you. We know that this can be a very difficult
time, and having to deal with things like debts and benefits as
well can make life even harder. So we can help you through this
process and work with any other agencies involved to help you
succeed.
I
already get help from another agency
That’s
OK, we can work together. We help with the practical things. If
you’re working with the CAB to sort out your debts but are
having trouble keeping all your paperwork together, and need help
at home with budgeting, we can support you in that. Our aim is
to help you keep your tenancy and turn your house or flat into
a safe and comfortable home
Do
you want to learn a new skill?
We can
put you in touch with various groups to help you build up your
confidence and get you back into 3earning, at whatever level suits
you.
What
we need from you
All we
need is your commitment to work with us to deal with your issues.
That means being there when you have arranged for us to call,
or letting us know if something’s come up, so we don’t
waste time and money going to an appointment you can’t keep.
It also
means you agree not to be threatening or abusive to our staff
if you’re having a bad day—don’t take it out
on them, let them help!
It might
mean we need to ask you to complete some paperwork with us, or
to talk to someone from the Supporting People scheme that funds
our work about how we are supporting you. Most of all, it means
doing everything you can to help yourself to stand on your own
two feet, so that we can then start to help someone else.
